Senior Research Scientist
As a Senior Research Scientist, Dr. Jessica Hall is involved in the research and evaluation of CAST projects focused on improving outcomes for all learners, from well-being and cognitive skills to engagement and academic performance, as well as examining and supporting the efficacy of education agencies’ systems of support.

CAST has a long history of expertise and leadership in accessibility, accessible materials, and assistive and inclusive technologies. Our AEM Center at CAST provides customized support so that all individuals, including those with disabilities — from early childhood through the workforce — have equal access to materials and technologies to help reach their goals.

The micro-credential and accompanying curriculum focus on one aspect of the UDL Guidelines, Checkpoint 8.1: Heighten salience of goals and objectives. The materials and resources are all designed to help CTE educators understand how they can use UDL to help learners sustain their effort and persistence. The materials include tangible strategies and examples specifically for CTE teachers, administrators, and staff.

CAST Science Writer guided students through the science report-writing process. The UDL-supported tool provided myriad opportunities for practice — a critical element to successful reading or writing strategy instruction.

In 2006, CAST joined with several organizations to form the National UDL Task Force, an interdisciplinary coalition that advocates support for UDL in federal, state, and local policy. The Task Force has successfully advocated for the inclusion of UDL in the federal Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 and in various policy directives from the US Department of Education.
