Project Name
Stepping Up with OASIS: Opening Access to Science Instruction and Support

Project Description

This project will design and deliver an enhanced model of professional development training and coaching to support the classroom implementation of CAST’s universally designed digital science notebook known as SNUDLE. Coaches who work with teachers on using SNUDLE will have access to online and blended learning experiences to support their work. After co-developing the experiences with schools using a user-centered, design-based research approach, CAST will pilot OASIS in Houston, Texas to assess its promise in authentic school and classroom settings, assess the promise of various active components, and collect feedback on the quality, usefulness, and relevance of the OASIS training and coaching model. Finally, CAST will conduct a dissemination study that assesses the quality of the OASIS coaching model and facilitates its adoption by schools.

Goals:

  • Support coaches in working to support teachers in the  use of SNUDLE.
  • Provide on demand resources for teachers and coaches to promote student science skills.

OASIS will:

  • Support educators to meet inquiry science standards for 4th and 5th grade
  • Support teachers and coaches in data-based instructional decision-making.
  • Provide tools and resources to create and customize science investigations to meet the needs of all learners.
