Memorable Experience(s) with CAST:

We connected with CAST in its early years, seeking support for our daughter, who was born deaf with cerebral palsy. She was among the first participants in CAST's Pioneer program, which focused on customized technology for communication and education. Recognizing the potential of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), we supported CAST's efforts to lobby for its incorporation into federal education requirements, leading to successful implementation.

Struggling with traditional education methods, we turned to UDL, eventually homeschooling with a 1950s-style curriculum and witnessing remarkable progress. Our daughter went on to achieve academic success, graduating from Mount Holyoke College and earning two master's degrees. UDL's broader application empowered her to pursue diverse interests, culminating in her current role as an adjunct professor of Roman Archaeology at UMass Amherst. CAST's "Big Idea" was pivotal in shaping her educational journey.
