CAST Remembers Friend & Colleague, Dr. Joy Smiley Zabala

It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the death of our dear friend and colleague, Joy Zabala. Joy was a fierce advocate for learners with disabilities and worked tirelessly through the years to ensure inclusion and success for those who require the use of assistive technologies and accessible materials and technologies. Through her work prior to and after joining the CAST family, Joy changed the lives of so many of us, unquestionably for the better. In the words of Grace Meo, one of CAST’s founders, “Her work is embedded in practices throughout the world.” Beyond the work, her joyous spirit lives on in each life she touched, including ours.

We are focused on supporting each other in the wake of this deepest loss, and keeping Joy’s family in our thoughts as they make decisions about service arrangements and opportunities to celebrate her life and legacy. We will announce additional details when they are available.
