CAST today announced the appointment of Linda Gerstle as Chief Executive Officer.

“We are delighted to welcome Linda Gerstle to CAST,” said Sheldon H. Berman, Chair of the Board of Directors. “With her significant experience in nonprofit leadership, a lifelong passion for social justice, and her deep knowledge of education research and practice, Linda is an ideal choice to lead CAST.”

In joining CAST, Linda leaves From the Top, a national arts education program and the preeminent showcase for pre-collegiate musicians, where she was part of the senior management team, overseeing all education and outreach programs.  Linda has led major state and national educational initiatives, most notably as CEO and President of ATLAS Learning Communities (2003–2010), a national consulting organization that partnered with 300 schools to enhance student learning and achievement, serving over 100,000 students in 16 states.

“CAST understands education and, more importantly, learning as few others do, with a broad and embracing knowledge that has been put to the test in a variety school and academic settings,” says Linda Gerstle. “I feel truly honored to join this team that will chart a future course with educators around such a powerful set of ideas and practices.”

Earlier, Linda held leadership roles at Education Development Center and the Massachusetts Department of Education. She began her career providing music therapy for special-needs students.
