Melissa has a passion for re-designing schools and curriculum in order to meet the needs of all learners. As a Senior Professional Learning Specialist on CAST’s Professional Learning team, she works with school teams to rethink curriculum, instruction and environments to provide access and agency for learners, using the UDL framework as a tool for redesign.
Melissa brings her experience as a teacher, licensed social worker, school leader and school designer to the work. She has spent much of her career refining personalized instruction, shifting to competency-based models, building trauma-informed school environments, implementing social and emotional learning, and instituting restorative justice practices for service to off-track youth. She believes strongly education and has passion for working with students for whom the traditional system did not work.
