Short Biography

Patricia Ganley manages CAST's school-based implementation of research and development projects, including teacher training, classroom instruction, and data collection in classrooms. She also collaborates with teachers, programmers, researchers, and students to develop technology solutions for these projects, bringing to this work more than two decades of experience in education and psychology.

Prior to working at CAST, Ms. Ganley worked in EBSCO Publishing’s Research and Development Department developing educational web tools and literacy software.

Current Projects

                       

Online Writing Assistance for All/ MassOne Writer – OSEP funded project to develop and evaluate a web-based tool that will integrate the principles of Universal Design for Learning with research-based writing strategies to support middle school students with specific learning disabilities.

Project Monitor – OSEP funded project creating and evaluating the application of progress monitoring to an interactive digital reading environment. The project aims to determine whether the addition of progress monitoring in this setting leads to better reading instruction for all students, especially those with disabilities.

Science Writer – OSEP funded project creating a technology-based writing approach to meet the challenge of supporting all students, including those with disabilities, in the science report-writing process.

Urban Ecology Institute–IMD (instructional materials development) –  NSF funded project in collaboration with Boston College ‘s Urban Ecology Institute to develop and disseminate a complete set of standards-based, urban ecology course materials and accompanying field-study activities for an Urban Ecology course in high schools that are based on principles of Universal Design for Learning.
