CAST Co-Founding Director to Address NCLB Commission
David Rose to discuss impact of education law on special-needs students

Wakefield, Mass., July 31, 2006— On Wednesday, Aug. 2, David Rose, CAST Co-Founding Director and Chief Scientist of Cognition and Learning, will discuss the impact of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) on students with disabilities with the bipartisan Commission on No Child Left Behind.

The Commission, co-chaired by former U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson and former Georgia Gov. Roy Barnes, has invited Rose and seven other special-education experts to participate in a roundtable on NCLB. This roundtable, the fifth in a series, will focus on closing the achievement gap between students with disabilities and their non disabled peers. State assessments for children with disabilities and accountability for student achievement will be leading topics.

The Commission on NCLB is working to indentify the law's successes and failures. After a year of hearings, analysis and research, it will report to Congress and the President in early 2007 with its recommendations for revising the law.

The roundtable will take place Wednesday, Aug. 2 at 10 AM EST at the Aspen Institute, One Dupont Circle, Suite 700, Washington, DC. The event is open to the public. Photo ID will be required to enter the building.

For more information on the roundtable and other participants, visit the Commission on NCLB.
