Member, National Board of Medical Examiners
For more than 20 years, Susan Spaulding has worked for public protection through medical licensure, continuing medical education, and accreditation of medical schools in the United States and Canada.
Susan is a newly appointed member to the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME), whose mission is to protect the health of the public through state of the art assessment and licensure of health professionals.
Susan is also a public member on the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education, which promotes, develops, and encourages the development of principles, policies, and standards for continuing medical education. She is also a public member on the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, which accredits medical education programs in the United States or Canada.
Susan’s interest in public protection through licensure began with her appointment in 1985 to the Vermont Board of Medical Practice in 1985; she was elected chair of the Board from 1987 to 1993.
In 1988 Susan also became the public member of the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB), an umbrella organization for all state medical boards. She was elected Treasurer in 1990 and became the first public member President of the FSMB in 1997.
