David Stockford

Policy Director and Team Leader, Office of Special Services, Maine Department of Education

David Stockford is Policy Director and Team Leader of the Maine DOE's Office of Special Services. The Office of Special Services provides leadership for the implementation of the state and federal laws governing the education of children with disabilities, birth through 20.

This includes administration of Maine’s Child Development Services System for infants, toddlers and children and their families, which aims to ensure an adequate supply of qualified special education and related services personnel, technology-related support, advocacy, and delivery systems for individuals with disabilities.
 
Mr. Stockford serves as the Director of MaineCITE, Maine’s Assistive Technology Act program, the Health Education and Prevention Team, 21st Century Community Learning Centers, GEAR UP, and Reading First program.

He is a past-president of the National Association of State Directors of Special Education (NASDSE) and currently serves on its Board of Directors.  He chairs the Children’s Cabinet senior staff and represents the Department of Education in many roles with state and local agencies and organizations.
